I added these to my 87.  I decided that the straps were too expensive from VW
and made my own.  I used 1" wide nylon strap found in sporting goods stores
that have a selection of camping equipment.  Cost less than $1 for the strap,
but bought the plastic top "hook/cover part from VW.
