Subject: Adding a pop-top to a Vanagon?!
Comments: To: Vanagon@VANAGON.COM

Dear Fellow Listees,

I have the opportunity to buy a camper top for a Vanagon. Question is can I just cut the top out of my Vanagon GL weekender and bolt down the camper top?

I know I will have to lose the A/C ducts that run down the center of the overhead - Will I have to give up airconditioning altogether? Can I get (or make) A/C ducts that fit around the camper top?

What else must I do to modify the Van to accept the top? Heavy duty shocks? Anit-sway bars? If I have to modify the vehicle too much it may not be worth it to add the pop top. Has anyone ever done this - I mean just taken a can opener and ripped a hole in the top and set the fiberglas unit down on it? I know this is a bigger job than I am thinking but I would like to know how much bigger. Thanks for the advice.
