I have done that. I just cut out the middle section of the roof and did not add the steel frame that Westfalia adds. The advantage is that the inside of the van stays higher, which leaves more headroom for the rear passengers and more space for the overhead cabinet in the rear. It is quite a bit of carpentry work to adapt the bed. You cannot use the original Westfalia bed. I used a jigsaw to cut out the roof after carefully planning the cut.
