Dave, I can proudly say "Bin there, done that!" First of all the facts:

Forget the Diesel bellhousing and motor mounts on a Syncro unless you want to import a TD fuel tank from Germany (read BIG $$$ or DM). The starter sits on top of the transmission on the Diesel and this space is occupied by your plastic gas tank (ie you can't bend the tank in or weld it).

You have to go with a KEP engine adapter and flywheel and design your own motor mounts. This is really quite simple. You just need to dive into the VW parts bin a bit. You need an Audi Fox / VW Fox oil pan and the thing that the oil filter holds on to. From there build a cross member and fasten some Rubber VW Rabbit transmission mounts on to it (Diesel mounts are the best). Then make some motor mounts out of some 3/16" or 1/4" metal plate that fastens to the stock motor mount positions of the Audi / VW Fox.

I have several photos and lots of details about this on my web site and in the next couple of days more photos will be posted. I have been driving two days on this setup and it is fantastic!

I have my Syncro skid plates and there is about 3cm of clearance at the lowest point of the engine and the skid plate. 4x4ing I go tonight!

If you have any questions about the swap please let me know!
