My scirocco was ticking me off yesterday big time. I hosed some brake fluid off the master cylinder, and then it would not start. I got out my CRC contact cleaner and started spraying the ignition pickup at the distributor. It is just like the vans, has a plastic plug that holds water. That did not do it, it still would not start. The dist cap was dry underneath. I finally disconnected the ground side wires on the coil and dryed them with the CRC. Started up first pull. I would say disconnect all ignition related wires, clean them and coat connectors in some kind of electrical grease.
