The Scirocco motor is a 8.5:1 compression ratio 1.8L, a solid lifter head with 33/40mm valves (largest factory). Stock power is 90hp@5500rpm and 105ft/lb@3000rpm. The are the same engine as the 83-84 Rabbit GTI, 84-89 Scirocco and Cabriolet and the 1984 Jetta GLI. The difference between this and a 85-87 GTI/GLI (A2) motors is the A2s have 10:1 compression and hydrolic lifter heads. You also need a knock sensor on a 10:1 compression motor. The code for the block should be JH and this is found between cylider 3 and 4. This motor would be my first choice for a budget inline four (~$500 Canadian for these motors).
