<< I found a '85 Sciroco today with less than 100k miles but some rear end damage. I am pulling the engine tomorrow for my '85 Vanagon engine conversion. I was just wondering if the Sciroco engine was the normal Jetta/Golf motor or if it was like the GTI/GLI motor with the bigger valve head? Is there a code on the head or where should I look? I am going to pull it regardless but it would be a bonus for it to have a bit more power. Any help appreciated. Those not interested press "delete". Ken Wilford John 3:16 >> If I were you, and doing this conversion, I would be looking for a 93 or newer Golf Jetta motor with the ECU wire harness. That motor ( 2.0 liter) stock is 115 HP, and with a minor chip upgrade, camshaft and/or even a supercharger from Bellevue Motorsports for that motor, you would have the power that your vanagon deservse (about 125 HP to 130 HP without the supercharger and around 155 HP for the mild supercharger kit and 190HP for the bigger supercharger kit. The motor that you obtained has about 90 or 95 HP(week, week, might as well stick a 2.1 water boxer engine it and ceap it simple) and will require a different fuel injection system all together. The other advantage with the 93 or newer motor and wire harness, would be that it would have OBD diagnostic capabilties. If you don't want to go with this route, stick a 2.0 liter Golf Jetta digifant motor, ECU, and wire harness, install a chip in the ECU (now available, see European Car) good for 125 HP. THINK BIGGER AND BETTER AND CEAP IT VOLKSWAGEN, not this Subaru and this Buick engine CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michael.
