In an extreme case, yes- you've got to floor it to keep it from upshifting at the regular times. Otherwise, no.

You really can't, anyway.

Are your ratios different from mine ('84)? Mine are so close, it almost doesn't matter if your in second or third; they both seem to be cruising gears. Engine RPM doesn't lower much when the trans upshifts from 2 to 3. On hills, it would be nice to toe-tap downshift. The way it is now, if you step on the gas on a significant grade, the engine doesn't wind up- it just runs louder. No downshift, either, unless you do it yourself.

Ditto for me. It seems, Doug, that your transmission is different from mine, and you'd be satisfied with mine...:)
