Boy, it is cheap insurance.  Recently the timing belt in my girlfriend's
'87 Plymouth Sundance broke.  Luckily the Sundance engine is not an
interference engine but it was a hassle (at least she has AAA -- free
tow).  Anyway, the shop bill for the replacement was like this:

Timing belt:  $3
Labor:  $280

Oh well...not Vanagon content, but interesting all the same :-)
