Hmm, I remember also having the same problem. For me it took a really good smakcing with a hammer on the drum. They are two piece, is it separated from the hub? If it has, then you may just need to back off the shoes with the star, which you can access via a hole in the back of the backing plate. Good luck after you get them off. Those return springs are a reallll bugger to put back in, and don't forget to adjust them properly and turn your drums, they may be beyond turning and ahve a real nice fat lip around the edge, this may be giving you a problem also.
