If I buy an '83 air cooled Vanagon with auto transmission problems (no forward, only reverse works), what am I likely to pay for a used auto transmission? Would it be better or less expensive to rebuild the problem auto transmission rather than replace it? Also, is hot summer driving less hard on the Air Cooled Vanagon engine than the Waterboxer?
