FWIW - my '88 Westy came with a stripped and repaired with heli-coil plug. It leaked like crazy ... I ended up drilling it out and taping for 1/2" pipe plug - the *smallest* thing that would remove all the damaged metal and give me good threads. The only difference in using a pipe plug is that the threads need some teflon tape rather than using a copper gasket. Doesn't leak a drop and is easy to remove/install. Just don't over tighten ..
