I got another solution. I had the same problem, and after going crazy looking for a solution that didn't involve becoming a metal welder. I found a longer version of the same plug. As it turned out, the top portion of the hole still had plenty of thread to tightly hold the new plug. I did that about 4 oil changes ago (12,000 miles).
