Subject: new '97 ev camper q's
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
hey volks,
picked up the new '97 ev camper on thursday, finally...
anyway, overall impression of the camper is very good. i know some have
questioned the quality of the conversion by winnebago as compared to
westfalia. i think they are remarkably similar! the layout is near
identical and a lot of the components are suspicously similar ;-> the
seat cover pattern seems a bit airplane like to me, but that's just
personal taste. also, the eurobago does rattle a bit more than my '85
westy did, but the vr6 engine makes up for it! we took a short jaunt
into the hills of kentucky over the weekend, and found ourselves
climbing moderate grades at 75mph at 3000rpm with the pedal only half
way! I still think the ev is darn ugly, but then again the '85 westy
wasn't as good looking as my '60 westy either :-) ok, enough rambling
and on to the q's:
1) rattles: any eurobago owners care to comment? solutions? i think it
may be the window shades and possibly the sink/stove lid, but the old
'85 westy was WAY quieter.
2) poptop: the drivers side of the poptop does not meet the top of the
van. ie, the poptop rubber seal doesn't touch the top of the van and you
can easily stick your hand in the space and grab the tent. the passenger
side is fairly tight so somethings amiss. seems water could enter very
easily. seems there must be an adjustment of some kind. the interior
hooks that latch the top down are on threaded bolts, could it be as easy
as this?
3) hitches: anyone put one on an ev yet? i want to put a receiver type
hitch on to use the bike rack i used to use on the '85.
4) reimo tent: hopefully steve lashley is listening :-) the reimo tramp
tent i got from steve worked great on the vanagon, but the ev has no
gutter rails to attach it to. if i remember correctly, reimo makes an
attachment to handle this but i would rather not drill any holes in the
van. any other ideas to attach the tent? silicone or another adhesive
for the reimo attachment?
well, i think that's enough for one post. 'specially since my posts have
been nonexistance of late :-)
