Jack -- I have an '81 and it most definitely should NOT have an O2 sensor. And it's mighty hard to pass the CO too. Here's an interesting experiment you might want to try sometime. I have been taking a community ed auto mech class, i.e., I've been playing in a big shop. Hooked up the fancy analyzer, sure enough, I could hardly get the CO under control. Bentley says "disconnect the hose from the fuel system to the airbox" before setting the CO. I did, set the CO -- _no problem_ getting everything in spec. Reconnect the hose -- can just barely get the CO in range. And that's with a very-recently-rebuilt engine, albeit at 4000 feet (and yeah, I've tweaked the geared ring in the airbox...).
