In British Columbia there is lots of free overnight parking if you know where to look! I go to the forestry camp sites, they are all free and there is never any big crouds of kids that like to party. If you want to party then there isn't a big croud of other people to piss off!

Anyhow. Stop at a Tourist Information Centre and ask for the forestry map for the region you are in - they are free.

Also, in Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC there are rest areas along the side of the road. My wife and I have stayed at these many times even though there are signs that say you can't. Big trucks stop there to so be prepaired to get woken up at 5am when they decide to warm up their diesel.
