Topic: Syncro front CV joints.

After uninstalling the front driveshaft out of my 87 Syncro I am now fascinated to realize that at least the inner CV joint is nothing special. It is the same as the rear CV joint!

This is strange as I was always quoted different prices for these compared to the rear ones.

Also I did not find the "washer" (P/N 251 407 295) between the CV joint and the joint flange. This washer is basicly a spacer and is shown in the parts fiche. I don't have it in my car though. Does anyone else have it?

Talking to Thomas Koch in Germany one time (he always talks about the Syncro and the "real Syncro", meaning the 16" variant) he mentioned that the inner CV's are identical to the rear ones. I didn't believe him, now I know. Or do I?

I am still researching the prices of the outer front Syncro CV joints. There seem to be german Lobro, brazilian GKN (GKN owns Lobro) and an unnamed italian company. Prices ranging from $99 (don't really believe it) to $550 at evil VW.

I'll keep y'all posted.

PS: any other Syncros in Alabama?

Martin
