Earl,

In April 1996 I bought six of those little end caps from my local dealer (part # 281 847 723B) for $1.32 each. The original ones were white, the replacements black.

I do know that a few years earlier I was told by the VW dealer that one needed to buy a replacement window to get the same cap ends. Talk about overkill! However much later I found the above part number somewhere on the web, perhaps the list archive. Armed with that info the dealer was able to pull up the part on the microfische. and I had them the next day.

The part has changed over the years. I had to trim away some minor inner plastic using an X-Acto knife so they would slide in the track. Real easy. Also once the fit is assured I put a drop or two of Crazy Glue across the innards to guarantee it won't slip out over time from opening and closing the window.
