hi kevin,

my wife and i just made that trip last month. we came from denver through
reno back to los gatos (where we live). this was the last leg of a 3,500
mile trip that took us through colorado, arizona, utah, new mexico, and of
course neveda. although i have not taken the hwy 80 route, i would
recommend taking 80>50>25>70 (i think that is the right sequence). neveda
was pretty desolate, but utah was incredible. if you plan on doing some
camping and biking, utah is the place to be! we passed through moab, in
utah, just leaving colorado. beautiful terrain and scenery!

hwy 70 over loveland pass into denver is quite a climb (the pass is just
under 12,000'). didn't have much trouble with the climb in our '90 westy,
nor should you in your van. the weather was an issue for us, but that was
last month. you may want to contact kyle over at volks cafe before your
trip, have them take a look at your van. ask him about possible elevation
sicknesses and fixes (an air flow meter harness gave me the boost i needed!).

i can dig out our trip report (and pics!) if you would like. i believe we
traveled around 1,500 miles from denver to los gatos.
