98% of the time you can just as well forget that there is such a thing. Consider that gear ("the L (low) gear") a "Granny Gear". One to be used when you find you and your veewee are wanting to get started in extreem enviromental conditions such as DEEP water, sand-dunes*, swamps*, deep snow*, or with an extreemly heavy load.

*...In these situations, it would be wise to engage the front differential lock if your syncro came so equiped.
