Subject: putting gas into my diesel

I started in May of 1997 to put a 1.6l rabbit (bored to 1760+/-) into my diesel vanagon.

Well, between illnesses, hospitalizations, working 90 hr weeks for my boss, I finally have the engine in and just waiting to hook-up the CIS, exhaust, and the distributor/spark plugs.

Of course, I could not wait for all to be ready, so...

I hooked up the distibutor and sparkplugs the best that I knew how (I worked only on the diesel vanagon, prior to that I would let someone else get grease under their fingernails). I "spit" some gas into the cold start valve opening and turned the key.

Dead battery, what else. I hooked up a charger and in 5 minutes (patience is not my virtue) I cranked it again.

It BELLOWED (exhaust manifold only so far) but it bellowed for 1 - 2 minutes!!!!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, of course with the load rumble from my engine, it could be an oncoming train!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had to share, Steven E. Broomhead, Sr. Derby, KS 67037
