Subject: Help - Leaky Power Steering Rack
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I knew my luck wouldn't hold forever. My SO reported a puddle of something under our '91 Westy. I thought it might be coolant from the rad or a hose but it was clearly power steering fluid from the rack.

First thing I did was check the archives. Second thing I did was cry over the upcoming expense. My understanding of the situation after reading the archives is that: 1. PS Racks are usually too costly to repair. 2. Rebuilt racks seem to work good as new. 3. Keep the fluid topped off until the repair is done.

I will visit my mechanic in a week or so. I am appealing to all listees with experience on this repair to send me your advice and recommendations. Feel free to P-Mail me if you don't think it will be of interest to the list. Ron, Kyle and Jim, please feel free to quote any prices.

Finally, anyone know of a local source of rebuilt racks in Greater Vancouver?

TIA

Kelly Bauman Delta, BC '91 Westy
