Hello, I don't own a vanagon yet , but found an air cooled camper that has not been driven in about 3 years. I think that they stopped driving it due to emissions problems , but I am not sure . I do not know what year it is , probably 80 to 83 , it has round head lights if that makes a difference. I am meeting with the owner next week , so I will be able to look at the engine and interior at that time. From the outside the body is perfect , no dents or rust. I will be getting this van very cheap , the owner offered it to a friend of mine three years ago for free and I was suprised that it was still there. I have never owned a volkswagon before , and have never even ridden in a vanagon let alone driven one. What should I expect ? Will this thing be able to tow a motorcycle trailer over a mountain pass at or above the speed limit with two adults and three big dogs in it ? Can I use it to tow home broken Alfa Romeos ? Or will it not stand up to this type of use ? At the price that I will be buying this for , even if the motor is shot it will be worth it. If the motor does need to be replaced where is the best place to buy one on the west coast , preferably Seattle ? Thanks in advance for the advice David |
