Mine also got noisy recently. I have an air con and therefore have a three stage fan. there was a big green resistor behind the left front headlight that need replacing.

The symptoms below describes my (ex) problem. 1st stage comes on when engine gets hot.... was not working 2nd stage comes on whenever air con compressor was switched on .... also not working 3rd stage comes on when the engine gets very, very hot... this was working Sounds like the car is about to take of.

I remember it first kicked on about two days after I bought the thing while stuck in traffic. Scared the heck out of me until I figured out what was going on. >> Your cooling fan should be very quiet. What you are experiencing is the low speed curcuit not working on your cooling fan. The radiator fan switch has a low speed and a high speed curcuit. When the low speed doesn't work any more, the high speed curcuit kicks in. You need to replace the fan switch located behind your lower grill on the drivers side. The cooling system will need to be properly bleed afterwards. When that high speed comes on, it sure is noisy.
