This weekend I spent about three hours removing and cleaning the Fridge in my '87 Westy. It was an educational experience, to say the least, and well worth the time. There was a lot of carbon residue built up in the combustion chamber. I cleaned it out, and now the fridge starts on propane on the first or second try. The floor space under the fridge was covered with 10 years worth of spills. It was good to get that cleaned. The fan behind the fridge was gunked up with dust and hair. I wonder if it was even working. I cleaned the "viewport" for the flame, and now it appears bright and clear. No more cupping hands and trying to peek in through a partially closed door to see if the flame is burning. It took about three hours because I was being extremely careful and cleaned everything thoroughly. It could be done easily in an hour. The only hard part for me was reassembling the flue cover.

I would recommend to anyone with fridge problems . . . clean it out.
