For my '81 I have the Benteley, Haynes and Clymer. The Clymer, which covers *only* the aircooled Vanagons made for the USA, is the one I use the most, by far. Has all the same info as the Benteley, typically much better "procedures" then the Haynes, and with no Queen's english and extraneous crap about carbureted 1600cc engines. In fact, I've used it so much it's literally falling apart, held together with rubber bands. I'm always looking for a decent used one in bookstores.

Maybe the other Clymer manuals are junk - don't know 'cause I've never used them. But this one Clymer manual is a gem; not perfect, but pretty darn good.

I'd advise anybody with an '80-'82 Vanagon to grab this manual if you run across it.
