I've also heard that the "Chicken Tax" on German Trucks is still in effect. I brought an '88 crew cab back from Canada, and had heard about the 25% duty on the crew cab, but that it doesn't always get applied. My experiece was that they listen to what you call it, and its up to the discretion of the border guard as to whether they classify the vehicle as a truck or passenger vehicle. In my case, they went with the passenger vehicle classification, and I paid, I think, 3%. But if you get a hard-nosed border guard, then you'll have to pay the full 25%. I would recommend saying a small prayer before crossing the border.
