Hi.....great list..just found it. Now, all I need is another Vanagon. (had to get rid of my first one) Anyway....I bought a homemade bumper that used the original mounting brackets with a 3"(approx) C-channel welded to it. There was an "L" plate welded to the channel for a ball. The channel was small enough to permit the original bumper cover to be used. It looked stock, but a LOT stronger. I had no problems pulling/towing anything, '60 CJ6 was the biggest. I only lacked drivetrain power, 2.0 air cooled w/ auto trans. I'm currently making a similar bumper for my rabbit pickup, with a split rabbit rear bumper for the cover. (and yes....it's a diesel... and for some strange reason, I love it!!) Hope this helps, dan
