<< all right!!! my 1980 standard westy is a rarity! when i bought it i didn't even know there were deluxes and standards. as someone else said "our vw's pick us, we don't pick them". I think i'll sell my 80 westy and buy a loaf, hey, i'll buy a couple loafs with all the money i'll make selling my rare standard. for those of you who have never seen one it has no propane tank, no stove, but has icebox, sink, revolving front seats, L-shaped rear seat with three seatbelts (this is a definite plus), cabinetry is slightly different as the extra seatbelted seat is in place of the deluxe cabinet there. the fourth seat in the back is next to the sink and is the L part of the back 3 person bench seat. >>

actually - in 1980 there were a substantial amount of standard westy's made, less in '81. i don't know where Jim is getting his stats - other than just campers he's seen. I have seen a number of '80 std westys (more deluxes, albiet, but...they arent as "rare" as you think.. in '79 there were just as many std westy's sold as deluxes. they carried that over into '80, and '81.. does anyone know the exact year westfalia-werke stopped importing the std westy into the us?? it was definately before the waterboxer..now, i have NOT seen a early waterboxer std westy..
