I do not have a good answer for this....hopefully someone else does.

The most common method from what I've gathered is....drain the old oil....fill with new....drive around....drain again and fill again with new oil. This way, the 1.3 qts. remaining is at least newer than the old, but still mixed with some old oil. But this way you also end up spending another $30-40 if you use the best oil, as you should since these transmissions are so fragile and so expensive. Rebuilds are expensive too, though....very much so.

I suppose you could drive up onto a ramp of some sort to raise the area where the 1.5 qts. hides....but I do not know if this is feasible and have never heard of anyone doing it. I do not know whether you can suck the old oil out with a vacum pump...don't see why not with the right hose....hate to get it stuck in there!

I think most people just leave the old oil in. I did. It's ok to mix redline with the old oil....even if the old is not synthetic. Says so right on the can. VW considers the trans. oil to be "lifetime," never to be changed during the life of the vehicle. I was surprised at how clean and fresh looking my old transaxle looked after 90,000 miles...still translucent...not at all black. Good Luck steve
