It had no diff lock, and there was some slight body damage back then. It's in OK shape. Originally, it was for sale in Sacramento, I think at a VW show, by the folks who drove it down from Canada. Then driven to LA. It was for sale for $12k or so back then (I paid $12,500 for the one I bought, which was a California-always dealer truck).

I had heard Martin Schneiter had bought the truck and bumped the price by 50%, but it must not have sold well. Perhaps he'll take an offer on it. I had assumed he had bought it to fix it up -- Porsche Engine and Brush-bars and all. If so, then $18k might be a real bargain. I passed on this one (partly because the sale was pending already, presumably to Martin) and becuase the tan one I bought was *really* prinstine and not much more. It also had the diff-lock, rear heater and six-seat option, which my wife really liked. I wish mine was white...

MSDS sells Porsche-Engine install kits for Vanagons, brush-bars and the like. They'd be the ones to want to fix up one for showing off their stuff at shows -- I can't understand why they don't -- perhaps there is reason to be concerned with this truck.

The going price, even in Canada, seems to be near this level, and this one is probably registered in California, saving lots of hassles -- I spent nearly six months getting all the paperwork cleared on the Kombi I brought in from Canada.

Malcolm
