Hey all:

Installed my "new" (junkyard) trans today, and I've encountered something I don't understand.

I'm trying to install the large nut that goes in the end of the guide pin. But since the guide pin is round, it's turning freely inside the rear shift rod. Result: the nut goes on only so far and then the whole assembly starts to turn. I would have thought I would have had the same problem in reverse when I took the nut off, but I didn't, for some reason.

What's the secret to getting this nut back on? If I stir the shifter mechanism around, does the guide pin somehow engage inside the shift rod? Am I supposed to hold the guide pin with vice clamps?

Help!!

Thanks.
