Hey guys, It's been along time since we spoke about this thread but here goes it: I had a consistant problem with my 86GL stalling when cold. I adjusted the throttle valve, checked for vacuum leaks (couldn't find one), replaced the blue temp sensor, and finally replaced the idle stabilzer (expensive). When I put the new idle stabilizer on the engine, it searched for idle and surged like my throtle valve was adjusted wrong...it wasn't. Basically it got worse when I put the new part on. So I went to put the old stabilizer back on and noticed my crankcase breather hose was shot. I replaced it with a piece of $.50 3/4" id hose and cleaned whatever was around to be cleaned. Now she's running like a top. Look for the cheap solutions!!! Hotch 86 Vanagon GL 89 Jetta GL Philly hotch@netaxs.com |
