In a message dated 98-05-26 13:06:57 EDT, you write: << It makes this 'clicking' sound when accelerating. I don't know if this is a common part of a VW Vanagon or something that may be wrong with the car that is fixable. >> Corkey, If that clicking sound is coming from the rear, my guess is your C/V joints on the rear axle shafts are dry and in need of lubrication. Take a look under the rear of the van and locate the axle shafts coming out of the transaxle and going to each rear wheel. On each end of these is a rubber boot and under the boot is the C/V joint. If you see any tears, splits or chunks of these boots missing or if there is a greasy residue around the joint, it's a pretty safe bet that the grease that was once inside the joint has left the party. Check the archives for relubrication methods - there's a very comprehensive write-up by one Joel Walker. This is a problem that must be addressed sooner rather than later. The expense goes up exponentially as time goes by! Sam Bateman Fork Union, VA '87 Vanagon GL |
