IT'S TIME TO CHANGE MECHANICS!!!! (sorry to shout) but if any mechanic suggests that one remove 1970-90s technology and replace it with 1920s technology it is a sure sign that they are incompetent. Electronic fuel injection is (believe it or not) simpler to troubleshoot and repair than any carburator ever manufactured. One just needs a cheap digital multimeter (<$20), a fuel pressure gauge (make it yourself for <$10) and the fuel injection troubleshooting procedure from Bentley. (I'd be happy to send you a copy.) The components can be expensive, but if one follows the procedure, one knows exactly what to replace. Besides, have you priced carburators lately? I have to replace a customer's Rabbit carb and my cost is $225. For a one barrel solex carb. The carb for my '83 AMC Eagle (winter car) is over $500. For a "remanufactured" part that is more than likely already worn out.) Keep the FI and learn how to fix it yourself.
