I helping a list member with mysterious disappearing coolant, I wondered if everyone knew about the range of ultra-violet dyes for use in diagnosing leaks. There are dyes for the cooling system, oil, fuel, trans, even A/C. An ultra violet light is necessary (and fairly costly) so it may be out of the range of the home mechanic, but if you're stuck with a mysterious leak, it might be worthwhile to find a shop that uses U/V dyes, or convince your shop to purchase one. It's virtually foolproof-Hey, I've used it!-and can save a lot of money in wasted time and repairs. Patrick no I dont have stock in the company. |
