Dear listees:

This morning I noticed my vanagon had leaked a small amount of oil on the
garage floor overnight.  I traced the leak back to the oil pump housing.  I
read the section on removing and refitting the oil pump in the Haynes Manual.
It says this is an "engine in vehicle repair", but warns of the difficulty due
to lack of space.

Please let me know really how difficult this is, and if I should pull out the
engine or not.  The book talks about a puller (for the pump housing), but I
don't know where I could get one (is there a specific kind?) - from the
dealer?, a VW parts store?  Also, what other precautions, preparations should
I make before I undertake this task?  I am only a moderately mechanically
inclined DIYfer.  I believe I can do it myself if I don't have to take out the
engine.

Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated!!!
