David,

I think the difference in experiences here has to do with Westy v. non-westy vans. Not only does the cabinet get in the way on Westys, but so does the metal plate welded to the seat pedastal that allows the seats to swivel. I was comparing them directly this weekend when swappping a battery out of a vanagon into my Westy. Pulling the battery out I was surprised by the room under the seat and wondered what people were stashing in there. When I went to put the battery under my drivers seat, I was a little dismayed by the lack of access to the space. Thought I might fit a trickle battery charger in there though.
