I think the rationale is that it is potentially dangerous to drive with the propane value open. If you had an accident it could rupture the propane line and cause a gas leak and potentially an explosion or fire. If you do drive with it on then always keep marshmallows and a pointy stick in your vehicle. :-)

I drive with my fridge running in LP mode but it may be imprudent. At the very least I think you would want to shut off any LP device while filling the LP tank. This is my other than expert opinion.
