I've never had mine blow out during freeway driving either, only when the tank gets real low do I start to have problems with it going out. I also do not have the LED indicator lights by the water lights. My fridge has a green gauge inside the fridge that tells whether it's lit or not. The older models are better in my opinion.

I don't think there's any problem driving or getting gas with the fridge lit. In the event of a collision on the side of the tank, there's a pretty good chance of fire anyway, if it's going to happen. I just don't know how a little flame up inside the fridge could stay lit or contribute to a fire. The crunching and scraping metal will contribute enough sparks to start a fire if it's going to happen. Along those same lines, leaving the fridge lit while pumping gas won't blow up the gas station either. People smoke while pumping gas all the time and they have ashtrays by the pumps. If it posed any real danger they would have ashtrays away from the pumps, and big warning signs. Alternators and starter motors are sparking every time a vehicle pulls up. A little flame inside the fridge isn't going to have any effect.

Should you shut off the fridge when filling the tank? Might as well, or not. I don't think it matters either. When the propane truck arrives at a residence they don't make them shut off all the appliances inside the house.
