Bill, check first to see if your window has the nylon slider inserts on the outside of the window. If these are missing, the sliding part of the window will fall down far enough that it won't catch on the notches. The parts are a few bucks each at the dealer.

This is also a great way to non-destructively break in to your van if you ever need to.
