Subject: Thank You and More Radiator Fan ???
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my questions on the radiator fan on my '84 Vanagon.

The following questions may seem dumb, but then I have apparently had some less than fully competent people working on my van.

It appears that the last one who bypassed the electric on the radiator fan switch did the bypass somewhere around the fuse box. I pulled the fusebox down this morning, but I couldn't find the correct wires (three all red, one traced with black, one with gray, one with white). What is best way of getting to point where cable from the fan and the fan switch comes up into the area under the dash. It looks like the best access may be to remove the speedometer cluster, etc. Is this the best way?

Does the radiator fan switch make contact with the coolant or is it just in a well that is surrounded by the coolant?

If the cooling system has not been completely degassed, where does the remaining air go when you are driving. When I turn off the engine, it sounds like bubbles are coming up through the radiator. I am going to give my current mechanic a copy of the 5/28 submission by Mike Modl on the cooling system.

Thank you again,

John in Middle Georgia

PS -- In order to keep my Vanagon, I had to trade in my '95 Pontiac GP GTP coupe for a '98 Pontiac Montana van. Its larger than the Vanagon, much more expensive, but holds less.
