Quite normal. It is just the 4 wheel drive system kicking in. You Syncro is normally a 2WD until the rear wheels move at a different speed as the front wheels. Then the viscous coupler kicks in and locks the front and rear wheels together causing your tires to skiff on the pavement as they want to move at different speeds.
