We currently own and opperate an 87 Van. GL Syncro like yours (though it is Blue) as well as a 81 L and a 85 w.b. Vanagons and a 87 VW Fox GL wagon. I asked my wife to respond to this request of your's. She said,

"I would sell our house and/or our other vehicles before I would sell the Syncro!'...'It may be your [my] toy, but as for me, I consider it a necessity in life."

She really uses it a lot, in fact it's primaraly hers since she is always toting the kids and her parents around. As far as trips, VANTASTIC!!! We did a trip with it to the Everglades, FL. and then a trip up to up state NY. Both trips were a blessing as the van ran flawlessly.

Expensive? and hard to find?, well, somewhat. It depends on what we are talking about since most everything except that which is invalved with the AWD system is typical to ALL vanagons (depending upon year for such thigs as engine, mirrors and headlights) and are thus interchangeable.

Tyrone Big Pine Key, FL 87 Van. GL Syncro 81 L 85 w.b. 87 VW Fox GL wagon
