The parent's had both an '87 Westy and a '95 Eurovan and used those little folding step ladders that you would use in the kitchen. You can buy them really inexpensively at the local discount department store or get really fancy and buy one from William Sonoma, either way it really worked well for them and they are in their 60's and 70's.
