Hello Listees,
Well, now time and situation constraints are bearing down on me (my wife is
due in 2 weeks!!! YAY!!) and I will need a small reliable hatchback for a
job that is starting at the end of July. In other words, the first thing to
go is the non-running project.
I have a complete Vanagon Diesel seats 4 pass with a home made platform in
back. OD reads 160K and it is Very Solid. I bought it from a guy who said
that he bought it from a guy in Tennessee and drove it for about a year until
he blew the head gasket. He sez that after reassembly, he couldnt get it to
kick over. He never got around to working on it again. It kinda turned into a
lawn ornament/storage shed till I asked about it and subsequently bought it.
I called it a 4 pass because it has the two front seats and that 1/2 bench in
the middle. Behind that one of the PO's built a carpeted platform which
extends the engine compartment level evenly to behind that middle seat. The
access to underneath this shelf is provided by little cabinet doors. (which
you see when you open the sliding door and look down and to the left, get it?
)
This is an original Tennessee van with very little rust really, what I see as
being the only problem spot is in front just below the bottom grille, (much
bubbling, No holes though, )
The rest of the bus had a bit of surface stuff here and there but the PO
sanded them down and gave them a shot of grey primer, So there's about a
dozen of those spots scattered about the body. The seams however are somthing
to be proud of. The sliding door is excellent and solid, a couple of primer
spots in the middle but straight and rot free and works smoothly. all latches
and locks seem good, glass is all good and the engine seems complete except
for the muffler. The aux diesel heater is still underneath though the PO sez
he disconnected it . and the master cylinder seems to have a leak ,PO sez
once every 2 weeks kept it up. Its got the plain brown vinyl seat covers and
the interior is complete 'cept for the radio.
So that's the beast. I was going to do the diesel to gas conversion before
other things came up. Now it will need to be someone else's project.
500 bucks. Located less than 20mi North of NYC
