Martin Schulte shows a picture of his Vanagon TDI Camper towing a trailer with a Vanagon Singlecab on it: http://www.koeln.netsurf.de/~Martin.Schulte/vw_bus/fotos/gespann_1.jpg His comments (translated): 15 May 1998: More experiences: In the past I did 6.000 km, fuel consumtion is about 7.5 and 8.5 Liter/100 km On the Autobahn I have some problems with the 4 speed box (ABB). It does have the longest transaxle rating 4.57, but a short 0.85 fourth gear. On the maximum 4600 rpm the van does 140 km/h. On a cruising speed of 120-130 km/h the engine does 4000-4300 rpm. This is nerve-shattering and consumes too much fuel. I have thoughts about longer ratios on the tranny. -Picture- What I really enjoy is towing a trailer.
As an exsample, it is no problem to climb hills up to 10-12% grades with this train (nice, isn't it?). Unfortunatly the speed limit was set to 50 km/h. Helmut '80 Vanagaudi |
