Nathan, I just put a starter relay in my '81 a couple days ago to replace the existing Ford solenoid that was installed. Bosch makes a relay kit for this exact purpose, called the WR-1 low-voltage relay kit. It comes with a relay, and a wiring harness that is pre-wired. All you have to do is attach the wires to the proper places and then plug the harness into the relay. It's really a lot simpler than wiring your own (I've done both, so I know!) :-) Check your local VW FLAPS for this kit. Should be about $10 or so.
