I have a 1989 1.7 Diesel Transporter panel van and have just noticed 2 white (blow moulded) plastic tanks each mounted inside the rear top of each of the front wheel arches. They are scalloped to allow the fuel filler pipe to pass by on one side. Each tank has 2 flexible hoses (about quarter inch dia) on the lower side which disappear towards the centre of the van, above the front end of the fuel tank. A third pipe (again about quarter inch) and may not be related emerges down the side of the tank from somewhere above the tank. The tanks each seem to have a 2 inch by 1 inch 'port' which interfaces to the back of the wheelarch. On the other side (inside the load space of the van) there is a depression in the metalwork of the bulkhead corresponding to the shape of this port as if something could be cut out.

Can anyone tell me what the function of these tanks is? To where are they connected and what fluids (if any!) should be in them.

This van is not converted and has no heating system other than in the cab as far as I am aware.

thanks

R Andrews
