from what one dealer told me, it's just a design defect on the original parts ... and vw won't part for the fix. :( i got the old parts back, and the syncronizer just flat cracked from the center outward. it did NOT look abused or damaged ... just a spreading crack from a weak spot.

i've NOT heard of this problem with syncro trannies, but then i don't keep up with syncro stuff that closely.
